1/29/2024 0 Comments When was the gay men flag created![]() ![]() The colors, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet represent sexuality, life, healing, the Sun, nature, art, harmony, and the spirit, respectively. The flag is the most prominent symbol of lesbian and gay pride. Multiple people have brought to my attention that there are several similar flags that have pretty much the exact same design as this one. Gilbert Baker, also known as the Gay Betsy Ross, designed the rainbow flag, or Pride Flag, in San Francisco in 1978. so we thought "Let's just do what people did with the lesbian flag," and decided on the purple stripes and cut down on the amount of stripes. ![]() My brother and I were talking about the blue vincian pride flag, and mentioned some of the problems people had with it, such as using 7 different stripes (which is just generally inconvenient for a flag) and only having shades of blue on it, which can be problematic seeing as it doesn't represent all gay men properly. Borrowing symbolism from the hippie movement and black civil rights groups, San Francisco artist Gilbert Baker designed the rainbow flag in response to a need.
